Final Draft

Slums
There are a lot of places in the world that are very hard to live due to the living conditions that are available there. One example of a place like these is slums. Slums are a place that are overpopulated and have poor housing conditions. Slums affect human populations around the world by populating an urban area more than a rural one, polluting the Earth due to poor sanitation, and by making corrupt politicians and slum lords rich. Usually a rural area is more populated than an urban one.
In the past few years a rural area has been more populated than an urban area but studies have shown that that will change for the next few years.  This will happen due to the amount of jobs that the cities are providing. On page 4 it says “This year, the world will pass a milestone so profoundly significant that 2007 will become a touchstone for future historians. For the first time, more people will be living in the cities than in the country. (Page 4) This quote states and proves that in 2007 the rural area will be more populated than an urban one. According to what the article this will be a huge step that the world will take Slums are overpopulated making sanitation a big threat.
Since slums are really populated there is a big problem of sanitation. On page 7 it says “There are public toilets and water taps, but sanitation is poor with open sewers along the alleyways.”(page 7) This quote proves to the reader that slums have sanitation problems. Although there are toilets and water taps in the slums there are problems with sanitation there. On source two there is a part where it describes how bad the slums are. For example they describe in great details how some people pollute the Earth. One example are the “flying toilets” which are basically bags that inside have human waste. In most places the people living in slums have to pay rent.
Since a lot of slums are overpopulated corrupt politicians or slum lords illegally ask for rent and get rich very easily. On page 5 it states "And slum dwellers here pay rent, often to slum lords or corrupt politicians who enjoy a good profit from a minimal investment."(page 5) This quote demonstrates that corrupt politicians and slum dwellers get rich by the slums. Even though almost all of these “investments” are illegal they still receive a good profit out of it.  Slums are places that affect the world a lot.
The world is affected greatly due to slums. Populating an area more than a rural one, polluting the earth due to poor sanitation and by making corrupt politicians and slums lords rich are some reasons why slums affect human populations around the world. These are some of the many reasons why slums affect the world.  Slums are areas that are cheap, but have great amount of problems that affect the world.
